ABERDEEN, UKFaroe Petroleum’s latest exploration well in the Brasse area of the Norwegian North Sea did not encounter hydrocarbons, but appraisal drilling on the main structure was more positive.

The semisubmersibleTransocean Arctic drilled both wells. Brasse East (well 31/7-3 S), targeting a separate structure east of the Brasse field, encountered water in a Jurassic interval; the appraisal well 31/7-3 A side track on Brasse’s northern area appears to have penetrated around 40 m (131 ft) of gross hydrocarbon-bearing Jurassic reservoir.

Results in the latter case were in line with pre-drill expectations. Wireline logging continues.

Faroe chief executive Graham Stewart said the quality of the sands encountered in the exploration well had reduced the reservoir risk of the Brasse Extension prospect, northeast of the Brasse field.
