ABERDEEN, UK – The semisubmersible West Hercules has completed well test operations on the final appraisal well on the Cambo oil field, northwest of Shetland.

According to operator Siccar Point Energy, a vertical pilot hole was initially drilled for the 204/10a-5, confirming more than 100 ft (30.5 m) of oil column, with higher than anticipated net pay of 58 ft (18 m).

Extensive logging and coring confirmed a good-quality multi-Darcy reservoir with 23° API oil and petrophysical properties better than anticipated.

A 1,612-ft (491-m) horizontal section was then drilled to conduct an extended well test: following initial well clean-up operations, the well was tested on natural flow for 10 days.

Siccar Point plans a comprehensive assessment of the test results over the next few weeks as further pressure build-up data come through (remotely) following the rig’s departure.

Initial results are said to be encouraging, suggesting good reservoir productivity and sustained flow.

Results will be incorporated into the Cambo field development plan and the well suspended for use as a future development well.

Earlier this yearShell acquired a 30% non-operated interest in licenses P1028 and P1189 (incorporating Cambo) and a 22.5% interest in P1830, which includes the nearby Blackrock prospect.

The partners plan an exploration well on Blackrock in 2019.

In May, Siccar Point and Shell also secured additional acreage in the Greater Cambo Area under theUK’s 30th Licensing Round.

This includes the Tornado gas field, drilled originally by OMV, and other exploration prospects, with satellite development opportunities to Cambo.

Jonathan Roger, CEO of Siccar Point, said: “We are delighted that the well test has further improved our understanding of the Cambo field and we will now be focussing on progressing the development plan of this major asset with our partner Shell.”
