OSLO, Norway – MOL Norge has permission from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to drill an exploration well in the southern Norwegian North Sea.
The jackupRowan Viking will spud well 2/6-6 S in license PL 860 next month, targeting the Oppdal/Driva prospect.
The location is 45 km (28 mi) east of the Valhall and Ekofisk fields and 20 km (12.4 mi) north of the offshore median line with Denmark, in a water depth of 70 m (229 ft).
Drilling could last up to 71 days.
Earlier this week the PSA initiated an investigation of Aker BP’s planning for use of a motion-compensated walkway on the Tambar complex in the same sector, after an incident involving the vesselIsland Diligence on July 28.
The vessel was due to be used as a “walk to work” unit: during a test program ahead of final mobilization, the walkway failed to connect as intended with the landing platform on the Tambar platform.
This led to problems with controlling the walkway, which hit railings on the platform and then a cable bridge. No one was injured.
Aker BP must now clarify its processes with an emphasis on risk management, for future use of the walkway.
