LONDONTullow Oil has asked Petrofac to provide well operator services for the next phase of its Thames decommissioning project in the UK southern North Sea.

Petrofac will manage the well engineering program and P&A operations on seven subsea wells.

The scope of the contract includes detailed planning and procurement and management of all sub-contracted services, including provision of a jackup rig.

In 2016, the company permanently abandoned two wells for Tullow Oil on theHorne and Wren gas fields, and claims to have achieved cost savings of $2.5 million through its approach to the decommissioning.

Alex Macdonald, managing director – Well Engineering, Petrofac Engineering and Production Services, said: “Certainty of cost and schedule are critical success factors for this project. We have worked collaboratively with our supply chain to develop a shared approach to risk and reward…”
