LYSAKER, Norway – Aker BP has awarded contracts to Kvaerner and Aker Solutions for its Valhall Flank West and Skogul oil field developments in the Norwegian North Sea.
Kvaerner will construct the topsides and steel jacket substructure for Valhall Flank West’s normally unmanned platform, under a near NOK1-billion ($119 million) contract.
This will be the first project in theWellhead Platform Alliance, which Aker BP, Kvaerner, ABB, and Aker Solutions formed in spring 2017.
In April, Kvaerner signed a frame agreement with Aker BP, and later an alliance agreement, for construction and hook-up of fixed offshore platforms, including topsides and steel jacket substructures.
The alliance partners have since presented several solutions for reducing costs and increasing productivity, which will feature in this project’s execution.
Kvaerner’s scope includes procurement, fabrication, sea-fastening and load-out, offshore hook-up and commissioning assistance.
It will undertake fabrication at its yard in Verdal, Norway, where pre-fabrication and assembly will start next May. The steel substructure and topsides should be ready for sail-away in May 2019, with hook-up and commissioning on the field scheduled for August 2019.
At peak, around 650 Kvaerner personnel will be involved.
Aker Solutions will provide umbilicals and detailed engineering of the topsides for the platform, which will be tied back to the Valhall field center.
In addition, the company will supply two subsea manifolds, a controls system and umbilicals for Skogul, which will be tied back to the Alvheim field.
This work will be covered under the company’ssubsea alliance with Aker BP and Subsea 7.

Aker Solutions will perform project management and engineering for the subsea delivery at its facilities in Tranby and Fornebu in Norway, Aberdeen, and Pune in India.
Tranby, and the company’s Moss and Egersund sites in Norway will handle fabrication. The company’s Stavanger offices will handle the topsides engineering work.
