DUBAI, UAE – Polarcus has started its new Capreolus 3D multi-client survey over the Phoenix area offshore Western Australia.

This includes the recentPhoenix South-1 oil discovery in the Roebuck basin. The contractor is deploying two 12-streamer vessels, Polarcus Amani and Polarcus Asima, operating in tandem to maximize production.

Capreolus, which will cover 15,000 sq km (5,792 sq mi), has been designed to provide a basin-wide broadband 3D seismic dataset over and adjacent to Phoenix South-1. The Roebuck basin has the potential to become a major new oil province,Polarcus says.

Data acquisition is expected to take four months. DownUnder GeoSolutions in Perth will process the resultant data through apre-stack depth migration routine. Final data should be available by 2Q 2016.
