STAVANGER, Norway — OMV Norge has discovered non-commercial gas volumes with its Velocette exploration well in license PL1016 in the Norwegian Sea.
According to partner Longboat JAPEX Norge, well 6607/3-1 S proved hydrocarbons in chief target in Cretaceous turbidite sands in the Nise Formation, with analysis of data indicating a 9-m gas column.
In isolation, the find is not commercial, but the result has de-risked various other prospects on the license that have slightly different trapping geometries.
Gas and fluid samples collected during the operation will be integrated into the updated prospect evaluations. PL1016 is within tieback reach (45 km) of the deepwater Equinor-operated Aasta Hansteen Field.
The well will now be plugged and abandoned.
