OSLO, Norway – The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has ordered Maersk Drilling Norge to draw up an action plan, following an investigation of the fatal accident onboard the jackupMaersk Interceptor at the Tambar field in the North Sea last month.
PSA’s review identified serious faults in systems and processes for materials handling.
It has asked Maersk Drilling to:
- Review systems for follow-up and use of portable lifting equipment on all facilities in use on the Norwegian continental shelf, including internal control, training of personnel using this equipment and transferring experience with use of such equipment.
- Identify and review all operations related to the materials handling process for the installation of seawater pumps on all facilities in use offshore Norway; identify risks and implement necessary measures.
The contractor must respond with a plan of compliance by Jan. 15, and enact measures by Feb. 28.
PSA has also authorized Eni Norge consent to use the semisubmersibleSonga Enablerfor drilling on the Goliat field in production license 229 in the Barents Sea, 85 km (53 mi) northwest of Hammerfest.
Drilling is due to start later this month and continue for 116 days.
