PSA approves pilot hole investigations at Snorre in the North Sea

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has authorized use of the CAT D semisubmersible Songa Enabler for drilling nine shallow bore pilot holes on the Snorre field in blocks 34/4 and 34/7 of the northern Norwegian North Sea.

OSLO, Norway – The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has authorized use of the CAT D semisubmersible Songa Enabler for drilling nine shallow bore pilot holes on the Snorre field in blocks 34/4 and 34/7 of the northern Norwegian North Sea.

Operator Statoil aims to investigate whether there is shallow gas in the seabed at planned locations for installing well templates for theSnorre Expansion project.

The program should start in mid-January and continue for 25 days.

Snorre is an oil field in the Tampen area in a water depth of 300-350 m (984-1,148 ft). Statoil submitted a plan for development and operation this week for an expansion project designed to extend production to 2040 by drilling additional subsea wells.

The PSA has also authorizedConocoPhillips Skandinavia to dispose of the Ekofisk 2/4 H, Ekofisk 2/4 A, Ekofisk 2/4 FTP and Ekofisk 2/4 Q platform facilities in the southern Norwegian North Sea.
