Offshore staff
STAVANGER, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway has sanctioned Statoil’s plan to extend the lifespan of the Gullfaks B platform and associated pipelines in the North Sea by a further 19 years.
The Gullfaks field is in block 34/10 in the Tampen region of the northern Norwegian North Sea, developed via three integrated processing, drilling and accommodation facilities (A, B and C) with concrete jackets and steel decks.
Gullfaks B was installed in July 1987 and began production in February 1988. The existing consent for use of the facility was due to expire next month.
The extension to June 30, 2036 applies to:
- Gullfaks B
- 12-in. oil/gas pipeline from Gullfaks B to Gullfaks C
- 8-in. gas pipeline from Gullfaks B to Gullfaks A
- 16-in. flexible oil pipeline from Gullfaks B to Gullfaks A
- 20-in. water injection pipeline from Gullfaks A to Gullfaks B (not operational, but preserved).
PSA has also authorized use of the semisubmersibleBideford Dolphin for drilling and completing well 34/7-A-10 on the Snorre field in the North Sea, 150 km (93 mi) west of Florø.
Drilling is due to start on July 7 and continue for 110 days.
Snorre has been developed using two floating integrated production facilities, Snorre A and B, and one subsea template tied back to Snorre A. Production started in 1992.
