OSLO, Norway – Total has found gas with its latest well in the Skirne area of the central Norwegian North Sea.
The semisubmersibleLeiv Eiriksson drilled well 25/6-5 S in 120 m (393 ft) of water in production license 627, 7 km (4.3 mi) east of the Skirne field and 170 km (105 mi) northwest of Stavanger.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), the well intersected a 10-m (33-ft) gas column in the Mid-Jurassic Hugin formation with good reservoir quality. Preliminary estimates suggest 3-10 MMboe recoverable.
This was the first well on the license, awarded under Norway’s APA 2011 round.
After P&A’ing operations, the rig will transfer north to the Barents Sea to drill another wildcat well (7324/8-2) for OMV in PL 537.
NPD has authorized two further wells: one, operated by Skirne partner Det norske oljeselskap, is designed to appraise theIvar Aasen field, currently under development in the North Sea.
TheMaersk Interceptor will drill well 16/1-22 S after completing two other appraisal wells in the same license.
Talisman Energy Norge has permission to drill a prospect northeast of the Varg field in the North Sea, using the jackupMaersk Giant.
