ABERDEEN, UK – The semisubmersible Leiv Eiriksson has spudded the Shango exploration well 25/6-5S for Total in the Norwegian North Sea, according to partner Faroe Petroleum.

Shango is in 120 m (393 ft) of water in license PL 627 (named Skirne East) on the northern part of the Utsira High, and around 5 km (3.1 mi) from the producing Skirne gas/condensate field.

It is a structural prospect where the primary target is the mid-Jurassic Hugin formation reservoir that has proven productive in Skirne, which has been interpreted to be filled to spill.

In the event of a discovery, the partners plan a fasttrack subsea development. Skirne itself is tied-back to the Statoil-operated Heimdal platform 24 km (15 mi) to the west.

Faroe also expects to participate in the first of two follow-up wells at thePil discovery in the Norwegian Sea, on the Blink and Boomerang prospects.

Another well is planned on the Bister prospect in the same region, a follow-up to the recentSnilehorn discovery near the producing Njord field infrastructure.
