STOCKHOLM, Sweden – The semisubmersible Island Innovator has spudded an appraisal well on the Lundin Norway-operated Gohta discovery in the Barents Sea.
Well 7120/1-4s in license PL492 will test the reservoir properties and hydrocarbon potential of the Permian carbonates in the Gohta karst Røye formation and the overlying Kobbe formation sandstones.
The location is 189 km (117 mi) northwest of Hammerfest in northern Norway, and 5.7 km (3.5 mi) northwest of theGohta discovery well 7120/1-3, which encountered a 25-m (82-ft) gross gas column above a 75-m (246-ft) gross oil column in karstified and dolomitized limestone.
At the time Lundin estimated potential reserves in the 105-235 MMboe range.
Planned TD for the current well is 2,930 m (9,610 ft) below mean sea level. Drilling is estimated to last 65 days.
