STOCKHOLM, Norway – Lundin Norway has discovered oil in the Gohta structure in the Barents Sea offshore northern Norway.
This is the region’s second oil find in a week, following OMV’sWisting Central discovery in the previously undrilled Hoop area.
The semisubmersibleTransocean Arctic drilled well 7120/1-3 on Gohta in license PL492 in 342 m (1,122 ft) water depth and 35 km (21 mi) northwest of the producing Snøhvit gas/condensate field.
In the Permian target the well intersected a 75-m (246-ft) oil column beneath a 25-m (82-ft) gas/condensate cap in dolomitized and karstified carbonate. The oil/water contact was established at 2,365 m (7,759 ft) below mean sea level. A drillstem test will follow to determine the discovery’s flow properties.
