ABERDEEN, UK – The jackup Noble Lynda Bossler has spudded the Pharos exploration well for operator Dana Petroleum in the UK southern North Sea.
The structure is in license P.1566, 50 km (31 mi) northeast of the Easington processing terminal on the English eastern coast, 14 km (8.7 mi) southwest of thePlatypus gas field discovered in 2010, and west of the producing Hyde field.
According to partnerParkmead, Pharos could hold in-place gas of up to 500 bcf (14 bcm). It is a structural trap with the same Rotliegendes reservoir as Platypus, which delivered 27 MMcf/d (764,555 cm/d) during a flow test last year as part of an appraisal.
Data from the current well also should improve understanding of the remaining prospectivity in the area, including the Blackadder gas prospect south of Pharos.
