ABERDEEN, UK – Dana Petroleum says a recent appraisal well on the Platypus gas field in the UK southern North Sea achieved strong results.
The jackupEnsco 80 spudded well 48/1a-6 in mid-April. It reached a measured TD of 14,175 ft (4,320 m) in mid-June, after drilling a 3,100-ft (945-m) horizontal section within the reservoir.
The well flowed gas on test at 27 MMcf/d (764,555 cm/d) on a 96/64-in. choke. The well is suspended for use as a future producer.
Located in block 48/1a, Platypus was discovered in 2010 to hold significant gas-bearing Lower Leman Sandstone reservoirs.
Dana’s UK Managing Director Paul Griffin said: “We are very happy with the conclusive results of this complex appraisal well. We will work with our partners to carefully analyze the data we have collected and consider development and gas export options.”
