SYDNEY, Australia – A new 3D seismic survey is under way on the 09/05 exploration license in Bohai Bay offshore China, close to the Zhao Dong field.

According to partnerROC Oil, data from the 150-sq km (58-sq mi) program will help to mature exploration prospects on trend with producing fields in Bohai Bay, and to determine the drilling location for a 2014 exploration well.

Recently anelectrical cable was laid from the Chinese mainland to the Zhao Dong platform, and five more development wells have been drilled.

Offshore Malaysia, ROC adds, pre-development activities continue on the Balai Cluster risk-sharing contract RSC.

TheEnsco 53 drilled and completed Bentara-3, the fifth and final pre-development well, in June. The well delivered net hydrocarbon pay of 83 m (272 ft) across 16 sandstone reservoir intervals.

The location, around 1 km (0.6 mi) from Bentara-2, confirmed the northern and eastern extents of hydrocarbons in theBentara field. The well has been cased and completed in preparation for an extended well test using the EPV Balai Mutiara, which has been on location at the Balai wellhead platform.

Testing will provide additional data concerning reservoir deliverability and continuity and hydrocarbon quality. Depending on the results, the partners aim to submit a field development plan and move towards a final investment decision by year end.

Elsewhere, ROC has pre-qualified for the Myanmar offshore licensing round.
