SYDNEY, Australia – BC Petroleum (BCP) is completing the Bentara-3 well in the Balai Cluster offshore eastern Malaysia.

The company, co-owned by ROC Oil, Petronas and Dialog Group, operates the Balai Cluster risk service contract (RSC).

Bentara-3, drilled to a TD of 3,043 m (9,983 ft), was the fifth and final well in the current pre-development drilling phase. Early analysis based on logging indicates the well intersected net hydrocarbon pay of 91 m (298 ft) across 18 sandstone reservoir intervals.

The location is roughly 1 km (0.6 mi) from Bentara-2, and the result confirms the northern and eastern extents of hydrocarbons in the Bentara field. The next step will be an extended well test of this and earlier wells using the early production vesselBalai Mutiara, after the vessel has completed on-site commissioning operations.

ROC says the data will be used to determine reservoir deliverability and continuity, and hydrocarbon quality.

TheBalai Cluster RSC takes in the Balai, Bentara, West Acis, and Spaoh fields. Pre-development drilling, which started last year, has now been completed. Assuming agreement on the economic viability of the fields, BCP plans to submit plans for development of the appraised area.
