IJMUIDEN, the Netherlands – Qatar Shell GTL has ordered another Offshore Access System (OAS) from Offshore Solutions.

This is needed to support Shell Qatar’s wells reservoir management campaign. It will be deployed on theHalul 50 multi-purpose offshore vessel for seven months, with options for an extension.

The latest order follows an extension of the three-year agreement with Shell Qatar to service the Pearl 1 and 2 platforms of thePearl GTL project, the gas-to-liquids joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and Shell, to the end of 2015.

For this project, Offshore Solutions says it has achieved more than 62,840 safe personnel transfers onboard theBourbon Gulf Star vessel, with 100% availability during the past 12 months.

The company has been operating in Qatar since 2010, and is in discussions about supplying systems to other operators in the region.

A spokesman claimed: “An OAS equipped vessel provides safe and cost effective offshore accommodation that during the winter months in Qatar, offers significantly greater access to offshore installations than by crew vessels or helicopters. The additional offshore man-hours made available by marine access can have a positive impact on production and radically reduce construction and maintenance costs.”
