IJMUIDEN, the Netherlands – Offshore Solutions’ heave-compensated gangway is providing round-the-clock access for Qatar Shell’s Pearl 1 platform.

This is one of two platforms supplying offshore gas to Qatar’s Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) project.

Following sea trials completed last December, Qatar Shell project and maintenance personnel are using the 20-m (65.6-ft) Offshore Access System (OAS), mounted on the Bourbon Gulf Star vessel, to reach the platform.

So far this year the OAS has been in used for more than 2,500 hours with 100% availability. More than 20,000 personnel transfers have taken place without any safety incidents.

According to Offshore Solutions, it is the first heave-compensated access system working in the region and has been engineered to serve for extended periods during demanding weather conditions and a wide range of sea states.
