Authorities sanction three offshore Norwegian Sea wells

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has authorized two new exploration wells in the Norwegian Sea.

OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has authorized two new exploration wells in the Norwegian Sea.

The semisubmersibleTransocean Barents will drill well 6506/6-2 for Maersk Oil Norway in production license 513. This will be the first well on the license, which was awarded under Norway’s APA 2008 round.

Statoil has permission to use the semisubmersibleWest Alpha to drill Well 6610/10-1 in PL 386, comprising blocks 6609/12, 6610/7, and 6610/10. This will be the first drilling activity on the permit, which was awarded in APA 2005.

Statoil also has consent from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway for an exploratory well in the North Sea, using theOcean Vanguard. Well 25/11-26 should spud in early January, in 130 m (426 ft) water depth in PL 169. The location is 178 km (111 mi) from Stavanger airport.
