OSLO, Norway  The Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has sent a proposal for public consultation concerning the APA 2023 licensing round (Awards in Predefined Areas).

This includes adding 92 blocks to the north, including the Norwegian Sea and Barents Sea, to the overall APA area.

“We constantly need new discoveries to further develop the Norwegian Continental Shelf,” said Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Terje Aasland. “Facilitating new discoveries in the north is important both for Europe, for Norway, and for the region.”

The ministry plans to implement APA 2023 in line with the normal timetable, with an announcement during third-quarter 2023 followed by awards in January 2024.

According to the ministry, the best-known areas on the Norwegian Continental Shelf are already covered by the APA rounds.
