ABERDEEN, UK – The Maersk Guardian has started drilling the Butch prospect in the Norwegian North Sea for operator Centrica.
Butch is in block 8/10, 7 km (4.3 mi) east of the Ula field, 10 km (6.2 mi) northeast of the Tambar field, and 20 km (12.4 mi) north of the Gyda field.
According to partner Faroe Petroleum, the prospect is a stratigraphic pinch-out trap resting on the side of a salt dome. The prime target is the upper Jurassic Ula formation, which is also the producing reservoir in Ula, Tambar, and Gyda.
Faroe also is drilling its first well as operator, on the Fulla prospect West of Shetland. Results should be issued later this month.
