Seatrium to convert, integrate five Whale Class Powerships
Karpowership has contracted Seatrium to develop, convert and integrate five hydrogen-ready Whale Class Powerships.
The full work scope covers equipment integration, mechanical completion and pre-commissioning works. Engineering is under way, with plans to deliver the first vessel in the series to the Seatrium Tuas Boulevard Yard in Singapore in December 2027.
Powerships are floating power plants with multi-fuel generation systems and integrated onboard substations that permit direct connection to national electricity grids, potentially generating first electricity in 30 days.
The next-generation Whale Class, which offer the highest capacity, can supply up to 600 MW of immediate, grid-ready power.
The contract follows a Letter of Intent signed by the two parties in August 2025 that provided for three FSRU conversions and potential integration of up to six new-generation Powerships.
