In addition, ABS has published a new technical paper that assesses the emerging offshore technologies supporting CCS developments.

FSIUs as a decarbonization solution

In a separate development, ABS has published a new technical paper that assesses in-depth the emerging offshore technologies supporting carbon capture and storage (CCS) developments.

ABS has analyzed the shift to dedicated CO2 injection and storage facilities from existing enhanced oil recovery processes, in which CO2 is injected into a reduced pressurized oil reservoir to recover residual remaining oil.

Its analysis suggests that floating storage and injection units (FSIUs) show promise as a means for processing and transferring CO2 for permanent storage in empty wells offshore.

The FSIU could operate both as an injection facility and as a floating CO2 storage and processing terminal prior to injection.
