Conversion of the LNG vessel Fuji LNG to the 3.5-MMt/year FLNG vessel MKII FLNG is proceeding as planned, Golar LNG said in an update.

After entering CIMC’s Yantai yard in China, the vessel was successfully separated into forward and aft sections in April.

A mid-ship section containing the liquefaction unit will be inserted between and attached to the refurbished forward and aft sections later in the $2.2-bilion program.

Fabrication of the topsides for the mid-ship section has also started. The converted FLNG should be delivered in fourth-quarter 2027.

Earlier this month, Golar secured FID on the 20-year charter of FLNG Hilli to SESA offshore Argentina, where it will receive onshore gas produced in the Vaca Muerta region. Golar and SESA also signed definitive agreements for a 20-year charter of MKII FLNG; although this remains subject to FID and the same regulatory approvals as those granted to the FLNG Hilli project.
