Jumbo installs wind-assisted propulsion to heavy-lift vessel

Oct. 10, 2024
The move is the company’s latest effort to boost fuel efficiency and reduce carbon.

Jumbo reports the successful installation of two mechanical sails to the Jumbo Jubilee heavy-lift vessel.

According to the company, the wind-assisted ship propulsion solution is the latest in a series of technologies installed to the vessel in a bid to boost fuel efficiency and cut carbon.

Jumbo says the relatively small footprint of the sails makes them an ideal solution for installation on a heavy-lift vessel, where space is required for project cargoes.

Additionally, the sails are flexibly mounted on a customized frame engineered in-house by Jumbo structural engineers. With this, the sails can be moved or even transferred to another vessel should additional space be required for cargo.
