RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil Petrobras has contracted Seatrium O&G Americas to supply two new FPSOs for installation at the Atapu and Sépia fields in the presalt Santos Basin offshore Brazil.

First oil is targeted for 2029-2030.

The P-84 (Atapu) and P-85 (Sépia) platforms, 200 km offshore Rio de Janeiro in water depths of more than 2,000 m, will have a production capacity of 225,000 bbl/d of oil and a gas processing capacity of 10 MMcm/d.

Both will be constructed in shipyards in Brazil, China and Singapore, with local Brazilian content of 20% for P-84 and 25% for P-85.

Currently, the sole active FPSOs on the fields are P-70 on Atapu and the Carioca over Sépia.

The new platforms should help reduce emissions through their all-electric configurations, process plant optimization measures designed to improve energy efficiency, and offer zero routine ventilation (recovery of ventilated gases from cargo tanks and the processing plant).

Other innovations will include capturing of deep seawater, use of speed variators in pumps and compressors, cogeneration (waste heat recovery unit), zero routine flaring (torch gas recovery – closed flare), low fugitive emissions valves, and capture, use and subsurface storage of CO2 from the produced gas.

Seatrium said it would implement its "One Seatrium Delivery Model" to integrate operations and engineering support across different yards.

Its facilities in Brazil, China and Singapore will manufacture the modules, weighing 60,000 metric tons, with the outsourced hull and accommodation transported to Singapore for topside module integration and commissioning.

The completed platforms will then be towed to the Atapu and Sépia fields for offshore commissioning.
