SANDE, Norway – Cia Brasileira de Offshore (CBO) has contracted PG Flow Solutions to supply liquid mud agitators for two offshore supply vessels.

The scope comprises three electrically driven PG-SubmixE mud agitators for the mud handling tanks of theCBO Arpoador and CBO Ipanema.

PG-SubmixE is a slow-running, wide-impeller, high-torque ‘paddle type’ agitator, providing a primary pump flow of 12,400 cu m/hr (437,902 cu ft/hr). The agitator is bottom mounted in the supply vessel’s mud tank.

The agitator leaves no ‘black spots’ in the tank, as it slowly pushes the mud down toward the tank bottom where the highest velocity is most needed and enters up the bulkhead walls.

This ensures the mud is kept in continuous suspension during voyage and storage, PG Flow claims.

“Our agitators keep the mud in motion and prevents unnecessary build-up of solids in mud tanks,” said Are Hjertvik, the company’s vice president of international sales. “This results in significantly reduced demand for tank cleaning and reduced wear and tear on pumps and valves.”

CBO operates a fleet of 23 offshore support vessels and supports Brazil’s offshore exploration and the country’s production platforms, working mainly in the Campos, Santos, Espírito Santo, Ceará, and Potiguar basins.
