BERGEN, Norway – Semco Maritime and Skipavika have entered into a strategic agreement on service preparedness for all rigs at the Skipavika Terminal near Bergen.
Semco Maritime plans to have all necessary equipment, workshops, and facilities in place when a rig has to be serviced or reactivated.
CEO Lars Skov said: “Despite continued difficult market conditions for offshore oil and gas activities, we see signs of a pickup during 2017.
“With our ‘Shipyard-in-the-Box’ concept we are able to mobilize our team of rig specialists for preparation within 24 hours. That agility is decisive for rig operators that have to swiftly deliver an operational rig or a drilling vessel.”
Skipavika Terminals currently has six rigs docked in cold and warm ‘stacking’ mode. “In particular the Bergen area currently experiences increased interest for reactivation of rigs,” said managing director Lars Hellandsjø.
The agreement also includes plans to jointly develop the former submarine base Olavsvern near Tromsø as a north Norwegian center for large arctic semisubmersible rigs which require a water depth of 20 m (65.6 ft) to dock for service.
Semco Maritime currently runs facilities at Hanøytangen – said to hold Europe’s deepest dry dock – and rig facilities at Invergordon, Scotland, and at the company’s head office in Esbjerg, Norway.
