AMSTERDAM -- Huisman-Itrec is actively marketing its model-tested combination drilling and pipelay semisubmersible, according to Joop Roodenburg, Huisman president.

The concept semi,JBF10000, is designed to conduct conventional drilling to 10,000 m (33,000 ft) TD in up to 3,050 m (10,000 ft) of water. The DP-3 unit is capable of installing subsea equipment, conducting workover drilling, and it can perform J-lay installations. The semi also is fitted with vertical riser storage for over 3,000 m (10,000 ft) of risers.

Huisman says the unit has a lower capex and opex compared to a 5th generation semisubmersible. Its displacement is 40% less, and the time from well spud to first production is reduced by 25-50%.

The semi is designed for work in the Gulf of Mexico, West Africa, Brazil, and the North Sea. The company is close to obtaining formal ABS approval for the semi's design, according to Roodenburg.

A model of the concept is displayed at Huisman's booth at the SPE/IADC conference in Amsterdam.
