ROTTERDAM, The Netherlands --ASL Marine in Singapore is building a new $138-million heavy lift/pipelay vessel for the joint venture of Laursen & Toubro and Sapura Crest Petroleum.

Sea of Solutions was responsible for conceptual and basic design of the S2500 vessel, a customized version of its Seabarge 3000 design. Features include a more conventionally ship-shaped hull with a bulbous bow to increase transit speed and to provide additional space for the 10-point mooring system. It can be upgraded for dynamic positioning.

Onboard equipment includes a centrally-located firing line with six single-joint welding stations, and a 2,721 metric ton (3,000 ton) single post crane. Finland's DeltaMarin also contributed to the engineering studies.
