ZURICH, Switzerland -- ABB has signed contracts worth more than $110 million to supply Azipod propulsion, power-generation, and power-distribution systems for 19 new vessels being built in Europe and Asia.

"We are very pleased with the continuing strength of the marine construction market," says Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB's process automation division.

The new projects include electrical propulsion systems for nine platform supply vessels to be built in shipyards in Norway and China, as well as one remotely operated vehicle (ROV) support vessel, one offshore construction vessel, and one light well intervention vessel, all to be built in Norway.

ABB will also provide complete electrical propulsion systems for a 153,000 cu m (5,403,144 cu ft) LNG vessel from Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction of Korea and the complete electrical power system package for one semisubmersible drilling rig for Petroserv, being built in South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering yard.

Other orders include drilling drive packages for one jackup rig and three drillships to be built in Singapore and Korea.

Deliveries for the new vessels range from late 2007 through 2009, ABB says.
