ABERDEEN, UK -- The Craig Group's North Star Shipping devision has launched its biggest platform supply vessel (PSV) to date. The Grampian Talisman will join the company's fleet of offshore support vessels later this year.

Spain's Astillerios Balenciaga SA built the PSV, which was designed by IMT. The vessel measures 78.2 m (256.5 ft) in length with a 17-m (56-ft) beam. The PSV will have 740 sq m (7,965 sq ft) of deck space and will be capable of meeting the requirements of a 300 class emergency response and rescue vessel.

TheGrampian Talisman is the ninth vessel the group has ordered from Balenciaga in five years, the company says.

"This investment is part of our overall strategy of diversifying and modernizing our fleet, which began in 2001 with two new-build multi-role vessels -Grampian Explorer and Grampian Surveyor," says Douglas Craig, managing director of The Craig Group.

North Star Shipping operates a fleet of 29 vessels and recently took delivery of three newbuild emergency response and rescue vessels as part of a seven-ship new-build program to modernize its fleet.
