L&T, SapuraCrest to build heavy-lift unit

India's Larsen & Toubro Lt. (L&T) has formed a 60:40 joint venture with SapuraCrest Petroleum Bhd. to build a $140-million heavy-lift pipelay vessel.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- India's Larsen & Toubro Lt. (L&T) has formed a 60:40 joint venture with SapuraCrest Petroleum Bhd. to build a $140-million heavy-lift pipelay vessel.

At the joint venture signing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on April 3, the partners said the vessel will be ready by early 2009.

Meanwhile, SapuraCrest expects to take delivery of the pipelay heavy-lift vesselSapura 3000, one of its biggest work vessels, in July.
