SINGAPORE -- Jurong Shipyard will deliver its first deepwater drilling semisubmersible rig to Norway's Seadrill in 1Q 2008.

ChristenedWest Sirius at the Singapore yard on Dec. 8, marks the first of a series of three Friede & Goldman ExD-designed semisubmersibles being built by Jurong under a $390-million contract signed in June 2005.

The semi is designed to drill wells to 37,500 ft (11,430 m) TD while operating in DP mode in water depths up to 10,000 ft (3,048 m).

The second semi is being built under a $404-million contract signed in August 2005 and the third unit under a $535-million contract signed in May 2007.

Jurong is delivering all three rigs under turnkey contracts, which include engineering, procurement, construction, integration, and commissioning.
