SINGAPORE -- Offshore Group Corp. has awarded PPL Shipyard a $190-million contract to build a jackup rig based on the yard's proprietary Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 design.

The jackup will be equipped with a drilling package capable of drilling high-pressure/high-temperature wells to 30,000 ft (9,144 m). The rig will be able to work in 375 ft (114 m) water depth and will have accommodations for 120.

This jackup is the third identical rig to be built for Offshore Group at the PPL yard. PPL delivered the first unit in Oct. 2006 and the second in Jan. 2007.

PPL says work on the newbuild is expected to begin in 3Q 2007. Delivery is scheduled for Sept. 2009.
