Leiv Eiriksson begins Shell contract

STAVANGER, Norway -- Ocean Rig's Leiv Eiriksson semisubmerisble has completed a contract with Total and has begun a new contract with Shell, Ocean Rig says.

Following transit and upgrades, the rig will begin exploration drilling in the Irish, Norwegian, and UK sectors of the North Sea.

The contract is for a two-year term at a day rate of $465,000.
