BREDA, The Netherlands --Dockwise has sent its heavy transport vessel Mighty Servant 3 to Grand Bahama Shipyard for a comprehensive renovation program.
According to Dockwise's Marco Schut, the open stern semi-submersible will be stripped completely before being restored to its original state. Its engines have already been despatched to Zwolle in The Netherlands for a full refurbishment.
The vessel sank off the North Angolan coast in late 2006, after delivering the drilling rigGSF Aleutian Key. The Dutch Shipping Council and the Angolan Inquiry Commission have been examining the causes of the accident – Dockwise's own investigations suggest there was no structural integrity or technical equipment failure.
A tug will tow the vessel from Cape Town to the Bahamas in February, and the overhaul program should be completed by end-2008.
