SINGAPORE -- Pan-United Marine Ltd. has signed a $39-million contract to build a super heavyweight construction vessel for Handel Maritime SA.

The vessel, to be delivered in 3Q 2009, will be built at PUM's shipyard on the island of Batam.

The dynamically positioned vessel will have diving support capabilities and will be equipped with a 1,400-metric ton (1,543-ton) revolving pedestal crane and two 100-metric ton (110-ton) revolving cranes capable of maintaining position when lifting or pipe-laying. The contract price excludes the cost of owner-furnished equipment, according to PUM.

This contract was a repeat order from Handel, for which PUM is building a similar vessel at Batam under a contract signed last May, the company says.
