Aramco orders KFELS jackup
Offshore staff
SINGAPORE -- Aramco Overseas, a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco, has contracted Keppel FELS for a newbuild drilling jackup for use in the Middle East. The award is pending confirmation from the client by May 2010 to proceed with the project.
Keppel will build the rig, due for delivery in the second half of 2012, as a customized version of its KFELS Super B class design. The company claims this will also be Aramco’s first purpose-built, `next-generation’ mobile offshore drilling rig.
Keppel FELS Executive Director Eong Kok Seng said the award of this newbuilding signaled that confidence was returning to the industry. The company has so far built and delivered 31 KFELS B Class jackups, with a further two currently under construction.
