LONDON -- The jackup Transocean Galaxy II should drill the Catcher prospect in the UK central North Sea in May, following the signing of a Rig Agreement. EnCore Oil is operator of the Tertiary (Paleocene) structure, in block 28/9. In January, a seabed survey was completed which confirmed that the well could be drilled using a heavy-duty jackup.
UK independent Nautical Petroleum holds 15% of the block and its share of the well costs are being part-carried by its joint venture partner Premier Oil. Nautical’s CEO Steve Jenkins says: “The block contains numerous stratigraphic leads and prospects at the Paleocene, Eocene, and the Jurassic levels.
“Recent 3D-reprocessed and interpreted seismic has defined traps and revealed several seismic anomalies. The upcoming well will target the strongest and most convincing of those leads, where a seismic amplitude anomaly indicates a thick sand sequence, which is likely to be oil bearing.”
