Hamriyah yard ready for jackups

SHARJAH, UAE --Dredging work has finished at Lamprell's new fabrication site in the Hamriyah free zone. The inner basin of the 250,000-sq m (2,690,978-sq ft) facility was completed early this year, and the 1.25-km (0.77-mi) quay wall is virtually in place, allowing the company to accommodate its first jackup rig for refurbishment.
Lamprell has just issued its results and operating review for 2008. It was a busy year, with the group upgrading and refurbishing four jackups in Sharjah. The latest to leave was Adnoc'sNDC Al Ghallan, which arrived last May for a program that included conversion of the rig from slot to cantilever drilling, the addition of hull sponsons, and accommodation improvements.
Newbuild work includes two LeTourneau design S116E jackups at Hamriyah for Scorpion Freedom and Scorpion Rigs. The first of these, theOffshore Freedom, was due to be delivered last month, while the hull for the Offshore Mischief should be loaded out later this year.
Around the same time, Lamprell expects to complete the first of two self-erecting tender-assist drilling units under construction for BassDrill in Jebel Ali, UAE. Following delivery, work should start on the second unit.
