SHARJAH, UAE – Fabricator Lamprell has issued an overview of its various offshore construction projects in the UAE.

During the first half of this year, the company experienced supply chain delays of components for its newbuild jackup projects in Hamriyah.

Action has been taken to improve control of key vendor deliveries and internal resource use. Deliveries of equipment for the jackup rigs are currently being received in accordance with the revised delivery schedules.

Lamprell is building nine LeTourneau Super 116E class jackups, eight at its Hamriyah facility. The other, built in modular form in the UAE, is undergoing assembly at a yard in Astrakhan, Russia.

The rigs were commissioned by contractors including National Drilling Co. (NDC), Eurasia Drilling, Greatship, and Jindal.

In addition to these projects, Lamprell has delivered two completed rigs this year. The first was aFriede & Goldman design Super M2 rig dispatched to Perforadora Mexico in June. The second was a LeTourneau Super 116E jackup rig delivered to NDC in August.

During the first six months of 2012, Lamprell executed 15 upgrade and refurbishment projects at its Sharjah and Hamriyah facilities. These included theGilbert Rowe for Rowan Drilling. The combined work scopes cover living quarter extensions, upgrade and refurbishment, structural steel renewal, piping replacement, and painting.

In April, NDC, Abu Dhabi, exercised options for two further jackups in addition to the four Lamprell is currently building. Lamprell claims at present to be the world’s most active yard building jackups in the <350 ft (106 m) water depth segment.

Aside from drilling rigs, the company is working on a fourth modified Gusto MSC NG 2500X self-elevating and self-propelled jackup vessel for offshore oil and gas, wind turbine installation, and maintenance operations.

The yard in Jebel Ali is building a two-level utility deck and a five-level accommodation module for 38 personnel for an unnamed customer.

Jebel Ali is also working on two contracts for Nexen Petroleum’s Golden Eagle area project in the UK North Sea. One is for a two-level wellhead deck weighing around 4,000 metric tons (4,409 tons); the other is a production, utilities, and quarters deck weighing roughly 10,000 metric tons (11,023 tons).

Both projects are on schedule and on budget with completion expected in 2Q 2013 and 2Q 2014 respectively.

At the Sharjah facility work has started on two topsides and jackets, awarded by Leighton Offshore, for theIraq crude export facility reconstruction. The client is providing project engineering and principal procurement services with Lamprell undertaking fabrication.
