GE to power eight Swire PSVs destined for Brazil

Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd. has ordered eight power generation, propulsion, dynamic positioning, and automations systems from GE Energy Management Power Conversion (NYSE:GE) for new offshore platform supply vessels.

PARIS –Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd. has ordered eight power generation, propulsion, dynamic positioning, and automations systems from GE Energy Management Power Conversion (NYSE:GE) for new offshore platform supply vessels.

Four of the PSVs are being built in Japan by Universal Shipbuilding Corp. and the remaining four are being built in Brazil by Estaleiro Ilha SA. All are destined to operate offshore Brazil.

GE’s scope includes diesel engine-driven alternators as well as main and auxiliary switchboards. Propulsion will be by Inovelis podded propulsion units, thruster motors and variable frequency drives for the podded propulsion units and for the tunnel thrusters, and the C- Series dynamic positioning and vessel automation systems.

GE will deliver its equipment to the two shipyards between May 2013 and February 2014. The first PSV is expected to enter service in September 2013 and the last in September 2014.
