NEW ORLEANS -- Bollinger Shipyards has completed the conversion of the crescent towing tug Admiral Jackson from a single engine to a twin-engine docking/assist tug with 4,200 hp.
The vessel was redesigned, updating the wheel house, stern section, and propulsion system. The existing engine was replaced with two, eight-cylinder engines.
Bollinger reconstructed the wheel house with improved window placement and low profile stacks for maximum visibility and installed new electronics package, which includ radars, GPS, depth sounders, hailers, VHF radios, fax machines, sound powered telephones, fuel emergency shut off systems, and remote control start and stops for the main engines.
New fendering was installed for maximum protection during docking maneuvers, and new galley and living area furnishings focused on crew comfort, with new air conditioning and heater systems were installed as well. With the installation of the new propulsion system, the vessels received new channel coolers, Coast Guard approved oily-water separators, new sanitary systems, and all regulatory documents were renewed.
