HOUSTON --Wartsila and Emerson Process Management are expanding their alliance to deliver integrated energy and automation solutions for FPSOs and drilling rigs.

The agreement, signed yesterday at OTC, combines Emerson's process and digital automation technologies with Wartsila's power generation, distribution, and vessel automation products. The two parties plan to thereby offer a single-source of system engineering, purchase, installations, commissioning, and servicing.

They claim this will help speed up tanker-FPSO conversions and subsequent commissioning, helping the operator meet tight field start-up schedules.

To date the alliance has worked on two completed FPSOs - Pemex's Yuum Kaknaab and the Teekay Petrojarl Siri, recently deployed offshore Brazil. Current projects involve equipment deliveries for the MPF 100 deepwater drilling and production FPSO, and for Petrobras' Pipa 2, claimed to be the world's largest dynamically positioned floater.
