HAMILTON, Bermuda -- The former Sealift/Frontline Suezmax tanker Marble, now owned by a subsidiary of Dockwise Ltd. and renamed Triumph, is in drydock at Cosco Guangdong Shipyard to be converted into a heavy-lift vessel.
The conversion consists of renewing the entire mid-ship section after removing the original cargo section.
Construction of the new mid-ship started October 2007 and is reaching the final stage of completion. The new mid-ship section of 130 x 44.5 x 14 m (427 x 146 x 46 ft), which will replace the old mid-body of 174 x 44.5 x 24 m (571 x 146 x 79 ft), will be joined to the original bow and stern section.
The conversion of the remaining single hull Suezmax tankers to semisubmersible heavy-lift vessels is in full progress and the last four vessels will join the fleet during 2008, starting with Talisman in May.
