OSLO -- DOF ASA has contracted Aker Yards for three anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels.

The Aker Yards Project in Ålesund developed the new design for two of the vessels. The Aker Yards AH 12 vessels will be outfitted with the latest equipment within safe AHTS operations large AHTS winches, cargorail cranes with manipulators, and new systems for handling rig anchors at stern.

The vessels will have a hybrid propulsion system, combining diesel engines, direct driven reduction gearboxes, and CP propellers with a diesel electric system.

The third vessel features Aker Yards' AH 05 design, and is 74 m (243 ft) in length with a beam of 17 m (56 ft).

The three ships will be built in Aker Yards facility in Brazil and are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2010, mid 2011, and towards the end of 2011 respectively.
