QGOG contracts semi from Keppel FELS

SINGAPORE –Brazil's Queiroz Galvao Oleo e Gas (QGOG) has contracted Keppel FELS to build a semisubmersible for $385 million.

TheAlpha Star is to be built to DSS 38 design for delivery in 2011.

The DSS 38 is rated to drill to depths of 30,000 ft (9,144 m) below mud line in just over 9,000 ft (2,743 m) water depth. It is 103.5 m (340 ft) in overall length, with a main deck of 69.5 m (228 ft) square. Its operational displacement is approximately 38,000 metric tons (41,888 tons). The DSS 38 has accommodation facilities for 130 men. It has both vertical and horizontal riser storage. The eight 3000kW azimuthing thrusters configuration complies with the American Bureau of Shipping Dynamic Positioned System (DPS-2) requirements.
